Governor, Council Declare Employee Appreciation Week

Gov. John Lynch and the Executive Council have proclaimed the week of  May 1 to May 7 as State Employee Appreciation Week.

In addition to appearing at the SEA State House rally for public services on May 4, the governor  sponsored an ice cream social on the State House plaza on Friday, May 6.

Here is the text of the proclamation:

State Employee Recognition Week
May 1 - May 7, 2005

WHEREAS, New Hampshire state employees deliver quality services that enhance the lives of the people of our great state; and

WHEREAS, State employees perform countless challenging and important jobs, including: preserving public safety, protecting public health, building and maintaining our roadways, supporting economic development, protecting our environment, supporting quality education, ensuring the rights of our citizens, supporting people in need, and administering justice; and

WHEREAS, New Hampshire state employees frequently go the extra mile to help citizens; and

WHEREAS, In challenging budget times, these dedicated public servants have often assumed additional responsibilities, with compassion, professionalism and a commitment to those they serve; and

WHEREAS, New Hampshire state employees continually strive to make sure they are using resources wisely; and

WHEREAS, New Hampshire State Employee Recognition Week provides us an opportunity to express our appreciation and gratitude to our state employees for their hard work and dedication to our continued well being and quality of life;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN H. LYNCH, GOVERNOR of the State of New Hampshire and the EXECUTIVE COUNCIL, do hereby proclaim MAY 1-7, 2005 as STATE EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION WEEK in New Hampshire and encourage citizens to recognize state employees for their hard work, sacrifices, and dedication to the people of New Hampshire.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Concord, this 4th day of May, in the year of Our Lord two thousand and five, and the independence of the United States of America, two hundred and twenty-nine.

The following is a press release issued by the governor's office on May 3:

CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch will recognize state employees tomorrow and proclaim May 1 to May 7, 2005 as State Employee Recognition Week. The Governor will also host an ice cream social for all state employees on Friday.

"Our state employees work hard and deliver quality services that enhance the lives of our citizens," Gov. Lynch said.

"They protect the health and safety of our citizens; they administer justice; they build and maintain our roads; they support economic development; they protect our environment; help ensure quality education; and care for or most vulnerable citizens. This week gives us an opportunity to honor and recognize the important contributions our state employees make."

Gov. Lynch and the Council will mark the week by issuing a proclamation and recognizing state employees at tomorrow's Council meeting. The longest-serving employee from each state agency will join them.

On Friday, Gov. Lynch will host an ice cream social for state employees on the State House Plaza from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
