Members Stick Together in Face of Backlash SEA members are sticking together in the face of management backlash against their vote of "no confidence" petition. Preliminary reports to union headquarters indicate that at least three Department of Corrections (DOC) employees have been interrogated in connection with their union activities related this critical public safety issue. One, and possibly others, has been threatened with demotion. The union has sent at letter to Warden Bruce Cattell, objecting to management tactics. In addition, SEA has published a flyer reminding members to stick together, report problems to stewards or union headquarters, and sign the petition. In addition to constitutional protections and state law, our union contract between SEA and the state makes it clear that state employees have rights both to free speech and to engage in union activity. This protects the public by ensuring that public employees can continue to support public services. The petition circulated at the New Hampshire State Prison for Men in Concord addresses six points, including the failure of management to staff the prison at levels required for public safety.
