Victory and Voice for Court Monitors / Assistants Court monitors/assistants working for the New Hampshire judicial branch are celebrating a landslide 29-4 vote to organize and join SEA, SEIU Local 1984. "Being in a union helps us ensure a quality record which protects litigant's rights," said Janet Cyr, a court monitor in Hillsborough North Superior Court. "With more stability in wages, benefits, scheduling and staffing, we can focus all of our energy on doing our best work," she said. "As one of a dedicated group that is responsible for taking the record in our courtrooms, I feel more comfortable knowing that my colleagues and I can support one another and ensure our interests are heard," said Mary Seymour.
With the election hurdle surpassed, the employees will now carry their momentum into negotiating a first contract. Their campaign builds on months of working together and building collective strength and protection. "When the floods hit Keene last year, I received two phone calls from SEA members who were checking to see if I was okay," said Lori Patria, a court monitor in Cheshire County Superior Court. "It's nice being part of a large group of people who are looking out for one another." |
