Vacant Seats on the Board of Directors Filled
December Council Meeting Elects A Veteran and Two New Leaders

At the regular quarterly meeting of the SEA Council on Dec. 14, a high turnout of delegates voted to fill three vacancies on the union's Board of Directors.

Elected were Marc Bergeron of Chapter 17 (DOT), and Chuck Vanasdalan of Chapter 20 (Insurance) to fill the two vacant seats reserved for state employees.  George Reardon of Chapter 6 (Hampstead Hospital) was elected to fill the vacant seat reserved for private sector members.

* Bergeron is a longtime SEA member and has previously served on the Board as well as numerous master bargaining teams.  He most recently ran for President at the October 2006 convention.

* Vanasdalan is a steward at the Insurance Department and played a key role in defeating the decertification effort there.  He is a councilor for Chapter 20 and has attended numerous union education events, including Summer Labor Studies Institute and our Worksite Leadership Academy.

* Reardon is vice president of Chapter 6 at Hampstead Hospital and is also a steward.  During his life he has been a member of many unions.
