General Statement of Duties
Performs professional duties assisting members with the difficulties they experience with health care insurance companies, health plan administrators, employer human resource representatives, and health care contractors. Assists bargaining units with health care research for contract negotiations, assists in developing Association wide strategies to improve health care bargaining priorities, and assists in advancing the ten-year vision. Performs such other duties consistent with the individual’s competency as may be required from time to time.

Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the President of the Association.

Supervision Exercised
Exercises some supervision over the administrative professional staff regarding special projects, scheduling of appointments, the completion of correspondence, and dissemination and gathering of information

Examples of Duties

  • Assist members with coverage and benefits issues. Works directly with chapter leaders/committees to develop and maintain Association goals.
  • Visit worksites, identify, develop, train and mentor leaders and activists, organize workers around health care issues in their facilities, assist with actions and other outreach activity. Mobilize membership - lead rank and file members to actively participate in health care actions and activities. Assists with information gathering, issue development, and long-term planning of Association approach to health care
  • Research and prepare health care information for various bargaining units for development and negotiating of collective bargaining agreements
  • Drafts articles for publication
  • Makes constant contact with all levels of government
  • Attends Chapter and Committee meetings as assigned
  • Makes oral presentations to groups of varying size and composition

Desired Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or four years experience in a responsible position or any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Must be able to present a good image and to communicate effectively with all levels of public and private sector. Ability to lead and motivate workers. Hardworking, enthusiastic and willing to work long and irregular hours, including weekends as needed. Excellent problem-solving skills. Good time management, organization, research, analytical, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with various software applications (Excel, Word) and familiarity with the web/Internet. High work ethic, results-oriented, and a good, compassionate listener

Special Requirements
An insured, registered vehicle and a valid driver's license
The position shall be created as a member-only opportunity for a two-year period beginning October 1, 2010. If positively received by members and determined by the President and Board of Directors to represent a beneficial, long term need that should continue past the two-year period, the position shall then be established as a permanent full time staff position subject to open recruitment consistent with the CUE contract.
