General Statement of Duties
Performs professional duties with regard to all facets of labor relations Assists in the development of and is responsible for implementation of internal and external organizing efforts. Responsible for taking initiative in developing own schedule and modifications of same as need arises. Performs such other duties consistent with the individual’s competency as may be required from time to time.
Supervision
Works under the direction of the Field Activity Coordinator and the general supervision of the Contract and Field Operations Administrator.
Supervision Exercised
Exercises some supervision over the administrative professional staff regarding special projects, scheduling of appointments, the completion of correspondence, and dissemination and gathering of information
Examples of Duties
Develops and coordinates chapter organizational efforts. Develops and is responsible for chapter and state-wide recruitment drives. Works directly with chapter leaders/committees to develop and maintain local recruitment efforts. Responsible for membership recruitment, retention and worker orientation.
Visit worksites, talk to workers at home, identify, develop, train and mentor leaders and activists, hold worker meetings, organize workers around issues in their facilities, assist with actions and other outreach activity. Mobilize membership - lead rank and file members to actively participate in worksite actions and activities. Assists with information gathering, issue development, and long-term planning of internal and external organizing efforts and assists members in organizing around issues, for example coordinating petition signing, letter writing, and/or picketing efforts.
Plan, create and follow-through on field activity work plans and participate with other field staff in team planning, implementation and evaluation of same
Participates in coordinating collective bargaining activities through preparation of bargaining agreements, assists in negotiations, planning and implementation of contract campaigns, and representing employees in disciplinary actions or disputes arising out of collective bargaining agreements and personnel rules and regulations, and decisions affecting classification, compensation and ensures compliance of collective bargaining agreement articles pertaining to orientation programs. Participates in the training of bargaining teams.
Assists in the presentation of organization's position on matters before the Public Employee Labor Relations Board, including preparation of briefs and pleadings etc., affecting contract negotiations.
Assesses the need for, and works with Communications staff to develop programs and promotional material by issue and occupation
Works with and advises legal counsel on particular cases.
Occasionally drafts articles for publication
Makes constant contact with all levels of government
Attends Chapter and Committee meetings as assigned.
Makes oral presentations to groups of varying size and composition
Desired Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or four years experience in a responsible position or any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Must possess above average reading comprehension, writing and math skills. Must be able to present a good image and to communicate effectively with all levels of public and private sector.
Ability to lead and motivate workers
Knowledge of issues of workers and workplace, labor and political issues
Hardworking, enthusiastic and willing to work long and irregular hours, including weekends as needed
Special Requirements
An insured, registered vehicle and a valid driver's license
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting salary $ 44,019.96. Benefits include health, dental, and 401K.
